Will telephone interview hurt my chance

just received a superday invitation but I can't go to the country they hold superday, so the interviews will be on telephone. Will my chance be hurt, compared with those candidates on site? I assume that interviewers will tend to pick somebody they can see.

Depending on your interview style, you could do better over the phone (e.g. you could have some notes/reminders in front of you). And from past experience, I find people give some benefit of the doubt over the phone - because it doesn't always come in clear, and it's tough to gauge someone on voice alone.

That said, it's harder to develop that rapport with someone if you don't match a name to a face. And especially for superday, I think this can hurt your chances, unless you can come off really charming over the phone. People like to see who they're hiring.

I've had some telephone interviews before and been able to advance to face-to-face interviews from them. The only thing you have to focus on for that is sounding confident and professional. They also can't see that you're sitting at your desk in your dorm in your pajamas, with your computer on to Yahoo Finance and Notepad, copies of your resume, and your roommate passed out on the other side of the room!

As long as you speak as clearly and professionally as possible and don't ramble, that's the best you can do. Good luck!

I am not a fan of phone interviews because your personality doesn't come through like it does in person. When your face to face body language plays a huge role if someone likes you or not. Lastly, because you can't see them on the other side you can't really joke around and gauge the others reactions to your answers. I do think you will be given some slack due to this but I believe you will be at a huge disadvantage. Good luck, remain confident, answer questions while being short but precise, and as stupid as it sounds always be smiling, it will come off better.

Face to face is always better...but if you can't do anything about it, you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck
