Will you quit a good job for IB

Hi guys,

Would you quit a good job for pursuing a career in IB?

Currently I'm working in a big4 audit and I'm doing pretty good there so I will probably have a stable, quite well paying job with very good exit opportunities.

But as the matter of fact I'm not passionate about accounting and I dont feel fulfilled.

The market for IB professionals in my country is moderately developed so I couldnt be sure that I will find a job when I quit big4.

Transfering to advisory within big4 probably will mean losing my current grade.

What would you guys choose if you were in my shoes?

Cheers

Are you a manager in BIG 4 yet? if so, do you consider yourself having the chance to be promoted to a partner in a few years time?

I'm from central europe and there are no many jobs openings concerning IB.

There are some banks / investment companies but they do not recruit on ongoing basis.

We have big4 advisory which is quite developed, but the competition for TS jobs is kinda harsh.

On the other hand jobs for accounting professionals are in surplus and are quite well paying.

Currently I'm an associate, in the next year i will be promoted to senior (easy promotion) but I'm considering focusing now on IB, learning finance and quit within couple of months to go either into advisory or some investment fund / bank.

My concern is that I will quit easy and stable path for much uncertainty.

Charle ...hand jobs for accounting professionals are in surplus...
While accounting professionals are only getting hand jobs, the bankers are getting it all.
Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

The fact that I'm interested doesn't mean that I will quit my job not considering the opportunity costs.

High finance is very appealing to me but currently I have a job where I just have to meet expectations and my salary is bigger and bigger year by year.

What I'm thinking about now is whether the switch will provide me higher present value of salary and satisfaction than staying at my current job.

The switch is like an investment, with negative outflows at first - time to learn, switch, build position, and probable, but uncertain future inflows of satisfaction and cash.

I know nothing about Big4 salary or IB salary in Europe, but in the States you will have a larger combined package (base salary + bonus) at every level of banking vs big4. The more important question for you seems to be whether there's even an IB job market over there. If no one's hiring in our area, there's no point in even making the comparison.

It's not like no one is hiring, but the job market for finance professionals is limited.

Lots of my colleagues in audit preferred investments but since they werent hired they eventually choosed audit.

I'm a person who thinks impossible is nothing so when I make a choice I can move abroad i.e. to london or anywhere in the world actually.

But I'm not pretty sure about this choice and I'm concerned that I romantize IB too much. Unfortunately I've never had a chance to work within industry or I don't even know someone who work there.
