S&I doesn't exist anymore. They changed the structure. It blows my mind how people won't just google investment banks they are interested in--many will tell you on their website how they are differentiated and how the IB team is structured. So check their website or any other bank's website you interview for. That said, your answer below since I gave you a hard time:

S&I is now split into Tech Enabled Services and Industrial Growth Products. Also, maybe Supply Chain and Commercial Services now (Don't think that existed when I was there). Rationale was services and industrials started to diverge and they felt the group would better serve its clients by focusing on industrial growth companies and tech enabled services. Good Luck interviewing and WB is a great place to work!

I appreciate your explanation - I was seeing conflicting things on their site, here, and on linkedin... and I was unaware of the structure change, which was the source of my confusion.

The VP above is wrong, you are being diligent, which is great. In Europe, it is still one group called S&l, which is why you are seeing conflicting information!

I genuinely pray you’d be able to get someone like me as a VP. Sadly, I know you won’t which is why I left the industry. You are trying to frame me as a jerk, when I took time out of my day to answer the question and helped inform the poster and others that if you don’t check the website of a firm you interview for, you could get burned badly when interviewing.

On the topic specifically, let’s be clear, I also would have asked a question like the one the poster asked when I was looking for a role, but that doesn’t make it a good question. I could have just given the answer, but instead I let the poster and everyone on the website know that every time I have ever hired for a firm, I have been shocked by the people that interview without even checking the website. It’s a teachable moment. It stings sure, but most real lessons do. Check the website for any firm you are ever interested in. Recent transactions, team splits, geographic split, etc. almost always will be on there for banks, PE firms, VC firms etc.

Also, to the guy talking about the European S&I team— kick rocks. The bank broadly splits by the categories listed on their website and what I gave was correct info. The website doesn’t have conflicting info, it’s pretty clear, just the change was in the last few years which is why the website reflects the change not WSO or what upperclassmen think at the posters school. I also would say the European team is a small portion of the bank, so the poster should specify if that’s their interest because most people assume you are talking about US processes unless you state otherwise on this website.

To be fair, there are juniors at William Blair in Chicago who still identify as being in the S&I group... see below for battle of the banks snippet
