W&L vs. UVA

All: Dad of a rising HS senior doing a little research. I'm not in the industry but have good familiarity. Kid is looking at UVA and W&L, but would be athlete at W&L. Is there a clear better decision between the two schools/experiences as feeders to GS/JP/MS IB? Would appreciate perspective from all angles and esp. alums. Thank you.

Honestly, cannot go wrong with either school. Both are great schools that provide a holistic college experience. In terms of recruiting, W&L has a fiercely loyal alumni network. This past summer W&L sent around 40 (out of a grade of ~450 kids) to IB summer analyst programs. These banks included BBs (including GS, JPM, BAML, CITI, DB, WF), as well as strong MM banks (Jefferies, Lincoln, Piper Jaffray, Harris Williams etc.). Feel free to PM — happy to help provide additional color on IB recruiting at W&L.

Agree that UVA is typically regarded as having a better chance of making it on the Street, but there is a certain advantage athletes have in recruiting. It'll just require a lot more effort to get into the mix initially in my opinion.

Current IB associate here. I've met plenty of UVA grads on the street. I've never met a single W&L grad.

To tack on to what Prospective_Pledge said both are great schools. Undergrad student currently at W&L and there has never been an issue finding alums from analyst-md and above at bb eb or mm. Also being an athlete is a great way to stand out both to employers and alums you look to network with. Likewise feel free to PM if you have further questions
