Worst WFH stories

Our spring week programme at a BB didn't choose the best platform to host their virtual meetings and as a result the audio kept breaking down throughout the day and the host had to rejoin multiple times.

Since everybody is working from home now, what're your worst / most ridiculous WFH stories?

Back in my wow days we'd use vent to communicate with our pvp/raiding partners. Anyway I was a fourteen year-old kid disguising as a twenty-something (by lowering my voice) and thought I was doing so well, then my mom comes in screaming and I forgot to mute while I screamed back at her, and the hunter I was with (this was 2v2 where I met my partner in general chat) started laughing at me asking who she was. He was very nice though.

So now I always mute when on virtual call unless I'm speaking and there's no real horror story to speak of. I have however occasionally tried to speak and would forget to unmute for a few seconds, and I think my boss thinks I'm dozing off...

My next door neighbor started doing jumping jacks or masturbating furiously every few hours. My whole room shakes violently each time he does this, and I can hear loud bangs come from his room. There was one time I was in a conference call and forgot to mute when my neighbor was beating the horse, and some senior people were like wtf is going on.

This type of thing happens surprisingly often, especially if your computer/browser is laggy.

I haven't seen anything so for during the WFH, but I've seen 3-4 shared screen mistakes where people don't realise that autofill is on. Best practice: If you are looking for an ANALyst, always write Investment Banking or M&A in front of it to avoid embarassment.

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

Thumbs up for Brave browser with its privacy features.

Somewhat related funny story, though not a WFH, in January I met with a counterparty at her restaurant of choice to discuss some business. She flipped open her laptop to show me a PPT and seems she forgot that she had been watching lesbian porn. I believe it was PornHub but she tabbed over too fast for me to make a positive ID.

Embarrassing for her, and I just played it off like I saw nothing and kept on talking about business subject at hand. Hell flipping open a laptop to porn in a meeting is recurring nightmare of mine. Worse if it's in a public restaurant. But it was a funny moment. Good thing for her sound was off.

HR micromanaging when we have lunch or go buy groceries during self study. I also had to visit the bank once to resolve a credit card issue for which I couldn't attend an ice-breaker session, and days later I got this email from the HR, sent to all analysts in training, warning us that we need to act professional and if we really do need to go out during office hours, like for doctor's appointments or "going to the bank", we have to gain permission first. I was like, wow, yes I should have been more thoughtful and communicated my situation in advance, but this email is some Jersey Shore note writing level bullshit. Cant take it.
