Worth taking Boutique IB job in small Market?
Hi All,
I wanted to get the communities opinion on boutique IB jobs.
Background: Have been working in corporate finance at a Fortune 500 MedTech company since I graduated from college (past 2 years). Looking to transition to IB so I have some experience in the IB industry before I go back to B-School. GPA: 3.7 (Top 20 University), GMAT 730.
What are your thoughts on going to a boutique IB in small market? Will it help my chances of landing a good IB job out of B-school? Will it hurt my chances of getting into a top B-School moving form a well know company to a smaller firm? Basically what are your thoughts of taking a job a boutique firm in a smaller market .
Thanks
Define "smaller market." Do you mean a regional focus (and if so, what comparable size--Denver, Seattle, Cleveland, etc.)? Or, do you mean client size range ($10M-$100M revenue)?
Is the boutique well known nationally, or in their focus? Brookwood Associates is a good example of a "small market" boutique that definitely would help your MBA admissions and post-MBA IB aspirations positively.
