Would banks generally share previous deal files?
Dear all,
Could you please let me know if it is normal for investment banks to share the previous deal files with new people? I worked for one bank that does not share - other than the necessary ones related to the deal I am working on. Another bank would share a lot of previous deal files. Just want to know what is the general industry practice in BB, EB, Regional...
Thank you so much!
Can see pretty much any old deal file on my drive. Occasionally things are hidden if highly confidential but generally I can see everything
Thank you so much - what is the size of the firm - or do you feel it is a general practice? Thank you so so much.
Could see every previous as well as those currently in progress unless highly confidential. So, around 90% of the deals were visible (irrespective of whether announced or in progress).
Have worked at a bank with full access and another with folders that are accessible only to those immediately staffed on the deal or opportunity. From what I observed, it was much harder for juniors to get up to speed and emulate best practices when they couldn't directly access most precedent materials.
At my previous firm, all the deals were in permissioned folders for only the deal team and were supposed to be copied over into the group drive after the deal either completed or failed, but people were often too lazy to do that.
Thank you all !! I would definitely use this as the criteria to decide if working for an investment bank or not.
Why tho
