Would I be stupid to not try to use my ___ as a connection for IB (pt.II)?
We had a guy couple weeks ago ponder the moral dilemma of whether not to leverage his dead beat dad for a job. Well as it turns out I'm in a similar situation. I'm currently try to lateral out of MM to BB. I was making good progress until a certain bank closed (or so it seems) it's recruiting doors for 2010. I have another opportunity at another BB.
I have a pretty good connection w/ the group I'll be interviewing with, but competition is going to be tight. Now as it turns out my cunty ex, who despite her efforts to make emends, I've been pretty mean to. Her dad is a MD at a PE shop that does a ton of biz with this group, and he's helped me in the past when I was starting to break into IB.
Her folks were basically in love with me when we where dating and mom still try's to get me to call her daughter up from time to time. I'd like to think I could land the gig on my own. But the group covers a sector that I couldn't give 2 shits about (and actually not really prefer to, but whatever) and I've done just enough deals and projects to have to explain the shift in focus. What do you guys think?

What would Avon say? He'd tell yo big headed ass to stop thinkin ou'side dem projects...cause dat there....das us String!!!
All jokes aside. Do you want to make the jump? Can you make it at this moment without reaching out to this man?
If the answers are "yes" and "no" swallow it up and do what you have to do. Women use men all the time, throw a hump into old girl for a while and party it up on the side...then drop her again when you're ready to move on.
On the back end, she'll just want you that much more. Always good to have reserves, whether its women or opportunities. Just watch out for them PE homothugg stickup artists.
I second this advice.
do it.
