Accountant To IB
Hi, I am looking to make the jump from fund accountant at a large reputable HF/PE shop to IB analyst. A little background about myself:
-
I have a CPA
-
I am taking Level 3 CFA in September 2021
-
I have a Bachelors degree in Accounting from non-ivy league school
-
Udergrad GPA is 3.5
I know this jump is very difficult, but I am open to ideas, even if the route is more indirect. MBA is a tough path though, given that I have 2 kids and I am 29 yrs old.
Does anyone have any advice on making this jump?
Is there any way to beef up my resume and make it more attractive to IB shops (i.e. additional certifications)?
What about an MBA?
Your age is definitely not a problem. There are 34-35 years old that get IB jobs via the MBA route and your professional background would make you a great candidate for IB. There are many accountants transitioning to IB every year.
I understand your concerns about the kids. There are many people with kids though that pursue their MBA. Some schools are really welcome to families.
What are your main concerns about trying to do an MBA, while having two kids?
