Advice for incoming college freshman.

I am going to be a freshman at a target school in the fall. What should I do this summer, to secure a good internship at a BB sophomore or junior summer? Should I try for an internship this summer. If so, what should I do?

I’d start thinking about why you actually want to be a banker and figure out how you can craft your story because “it’s always been your dream” or “make lots of money” won’t cut it. Maybe start investing some of your own money and spend 5-10 minutes briefly speaking to any of your friends parents who work in anything related to finance (or honestly any field) and ask what they do, what they like about their job, and what the hardest part is. That way you’ll be able to articulate why you like banking over working in a controllers office or something because of the fast paced environment and you want everyday to be different. Plus your friends parents will always talk to you and it’s good networking practice and it’s low stakes.
