advice on high school informal internship?
I am a high school student who is interested in investment banking and PE. I am looking for an informal internship this summer with the primary goal of learning more about the industry and meeting and working with professionals while assisting in any way I can.
I know it is a really tough climate right now, but does anyone here have advice on where/what to look for? I live in a midsized city.
Something at a local commercial bank or a small company. Maybe try search funds. Really anything while you're in high school that gives you experience.
Peak WSO.
My question is why? I see countless alternatives that would be more productive, from social (drink a beer) to general knowledge (read books or explore a hobby) to finance (self study accounting, corporate finance, valuation, modeling, stock pitches, etc.). You wouldn't be getting much value out of a high school "shadowing"-esque internship unless it's at a name brand place. (I've seen JPM high school diversity shadowing-esque internships that have led to subsequent internships freshman / sophomore year of undergrad.)
Completely disagree. If you can get an internship and speak intelligently about it, it will do wonders opening doors freshman and soph year. At least it has for me, YMMV
