Advice to those who are cold emailing alumni…

I’ve been getting a lot of emails lately from current students of my Alma mater asking for coffee chats/ “getting to know the firm better”. I haven’t responded to any of these emails for one simple reason. I’m not even in IB… I work in investment management. If any of you are trying for IB and cold email someone who doesn’t work in IB, and then proceed to say “I’m interested in IB” all that tells me is that you didn’t even read my resume on LinkedIn or understand what IB job titles are. Are people really just filtering by school and bank and then assuming everyone works in IB? Please stop emailing non IB employees and saying you’re “interested in IB”. I can’t help you even if I wanted to.
