Alternatives to IB with more life-work balance
Hello, I was interested in knowing about other jobs similar to IB, with more or less the same pay but less weekly hours(around 60 weekly hours), so that I would be able to have a healthy life and a bit of social life. I have heard that PE and some Hedge Funds provide this kind of jobs. Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with staying some days later in the office or a couple of all nighters, but I am talking about a bit more balanced lifestyle.
You need to go through IB to get an easier path to PE and HF. You want something easy and more balanced, then go for Transaction Advisory Services.

Not going to get the same pay, at least at first, but real estate is an option
I feel like real estate always gets overlooked. Better hours, you can still make a decent amount in the beginning (not as much but still decent) and as you get along in your career you can make really good money, you can do it in non-NYC places (i.e. less expensive) and the people tend to be nicer to work with.
Different strokes for different folks. Can't remember the last time I put more than 50 hours into a week though.
Are you thinking of jobs specially similar to IBD or in finance in general? You might want to consider credit risk: you still get to cover industries but there's no experience working on deals or client interaction.
Also, you shouldn't work in finance at all if you're deeply concerned about losing work-life balance.
