Am I Vulnerable or Is It Really Toxic? Seeking Advice
Hello everyone!
I find myself in a perplexing situation at work and would greatly appreciate your insights and advice. The dynamics in my current role have raised concerns about the vulnerability of my position or whether I'm truly working in a toxic environment. I'd like to share a few aspects of my experience and seek your valuable perspectives on this matter.
- Fake DDL/Urgent Task: What concerns me is that I have been given urgent deliverables with instructions to aim for sending them out the following day or within the week, but these deadlines are often not met. Furthermore, after completing these 'urgent' tasks, they are sometimes never reviewed or sent out as originally instructed. This inconsistency leaves me questioning the fairness of the situation and the value placed on my efforts.
- Unreasonable Workload: One example is while the task is expected to be completed within a month, I was given only one week to finalize it.
- Scolding Analysts/Associates Everyday: ...It appears that criticism is a daily occurrence, fostering a culture of negativity and low morale. I dont want to say any examples here, you know what. It is not only me, the whole team got scolded.
- No Bonus This Year: I was given a "promise" that there would be a salary increase if I worked harder to bring in deals. As a Mandarin native speaker and a junior analyst, I have been asked several times to contact/call decision-makers in top Chinese IBs, PEs, or companies to secure deals. It's my first job and I tried to send cold-emails to some guys I could find but no luck so far.
- Monkey Tasks and Limited Modelling Exposure: I have been consistently denied such opportunities ...They said I am "too young."
My dear friends, it is my first job in IB (Currently a M&A analyst in one boutique) even I have previous IB internship experience, I stil felt confused:
- Should I stay in my current job and try to address these issues?
- Alternatively, should I spend time looking for new job opportunities now, considering the concerns I have ? (I have spent 10 months here, will it be too short as my first job?)
I would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance you can provide to help me make an informed decision about my career path moving forward.
Thank you in advance for your support and insights.
