Any advices on how to break into NY or HK as an outsider?

Hello all,

I’m currently a rising senior and I am looking for some job/internship opportunities at investment banking division at BB, possibly in New York or Hong Kong. The problem is that I’m a complete outsider. I’m an Asian girl and my university, though it’s ranked as top within my country, is not well-known in foreign countries I guess.

I’ve done an off-cycle IBD internship at top-ranked BB and the office was located in my country. I also did a semester-long internship at a PE and received a full-time position offer but didn’t take it as I realized that the market size is really limited in my country after doing some internships. There is no sub-sectors (it’s just plainly country-coverage) and I do want to explore some chances in hub cities like NY or HK.

My aim is to get a summer analyst position next year but I have completely no idea how to start get net-working with those in other countries. And I know that if I don’t, I won’t get any chances, not even for phone-interviews. Those who were in similar situations before, do you have any advices to give out?

Thanks,
