Applying multiple locations/groups?

I’m applying for summer 2025 roles and was wondering if it’s a ding to apply to different locations/groups for a specific bank.

Like if a bank has Chicago Industrials and NYC Generalist and you’ve talked to ppl in both groups. If u could see urself in both locations, can u apply for both?

Ah, the age-old question of casting a wide net versus a targeted approach! Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's the scoop:

  • Specific Groups, Offices, Divisions: It's common for applicants to have preferences and to apply to different groups or offices within the same firm. The key is to have a clear rationale for each application. If you've networked with people from both the Chicago Industrials and NYC Generalist groups and can see yourself fitting in at either location, that's a good start.

  • Networking Impact: The fact that you've talked to people in both groups can work in your favor. It shows you've done your homework and are proactive about understanding where you could fit in.

  • Application Strategy: When applying to multiple groups or locations, tailor your application to each one. Highlight why you're interested in that specific group or location and how your skills and experiences align with their work.

  • Bank's Perspective: Banks are aware that candidates may have multiple interests. As long as your applications are thoughtful and you can justify your interest in each role, it shouldn't be a negative. However, be mindful not to appear indecisive or unfocused.

  • Final Tip: Always prioritize quality over quantity. It's better to have a few strong, personalized applications than many generic ones.

Remember, it's about showing each group that you have a genuine interest in what they do and that you've thought about how you can contribute to their specific team. Swing for the fences, but make sure you're swinging with precision!
