Are bankers offended if you ask them about future plans

Hey guys a networking/job seeking monkey here, just wanted to ask a bit about banker ettiquette.

Do you guys care if we ask what your plans are after banking? Ie) PE/HF? If you are interested in VC/Corp Dev? Def won't ask company names or anything but curious to hear if that is smth considered offensive.

As with everything, you gotta be slick like a motherfucker. Something like “how has your X year in banking evolved your career goals?” Will fish out whether they wanna discuss their buyside gig but plenty will be like “loving the job rn” so that may be a helpful filter on who’d be open or not

Not really, just make it general and leave it open. I did it while recruiting for SA gigs during college. I asked what their long term plans were, and I've even asked higher ups why they've decided to stay in banking. Even if a banker didnt land a MF PE or tiger cub gig after their analyst stint, that doesn't mean they didn't have other opportunities, so it's a genuine question. But don't ask something like, why did you choose UBS, or why did you choose to go to [insert mediocre school]?
