Asking For a Job Shadow Day
I met a trader who works for a BB last fall, and we have been emailing back and forth periodically about different events and strategies. I am wanting to ask for a job shadow day, but I don't know they work at BB, and I don't want to sound dumb and ruin my future chances for networking purposes. Anyone have any advice on how to go about it?
At the end say: That's great, now put me on the desk and I'll make money
It is unlikely that they will accept dude... You cannot just come work at a bank for one day without a shit ton of paperwork, due to HR / Compliance issues. Usually people are doing this as part of the "spring weeks" or other structured schemes.
Just my 2 cents. It might just be better to ask him for a coffee / ask him to introduce you to some other traders. This way, you actually are doing effective networking.
I've shadowed several desks at a top BB during my college years without any paperwork or anything. Granted it was a close relative that set it up for me, but I don't think it is a crazy thing to ask. It's not really coming to work for the day, it's just meeting the desk, sitting next to them, and talking to them.
