Background Check - Going through background checks again?

I understand a ton of background check questions are being asked, but I would really appreciate some help for my situation:

So earlier this year I got a misdemeanor assault charge. I was celebrating, got really drunk, and decided to push an authoritative figure, leading me to getting this charge (and being classified as a dumbass). I received an offer after completing my summer internship which I had accepted and am freaking out about it. I need to attend some anger management classes and get some volunteering done, and the courts will dismiss my charge.

Now, I am not 100% sure I go through background checks again with the same company if I have already passed it when going in for the internship. Could anyone verify this?

More importantly, as I have yet to fill out new background check paperwork for FT, should I contact HR right now? I have yet to get it officially dismissed but I have the paperwork which states that upon completion of the class and hours (both of which will be done months prior to me starting) the charge will be dismissed.

It was definitely my fault and I take full ownership of my actions. Just trying to figure out how to break it to HR to minimize my chances of getting my job yanked away from me.

You will go through a background check. Be honest about it. Don't beat around the bush, as your employer will find out one way or another. You got a misdemeanor and it could be far worse. They just want you to be truthful.

Just be honest about it. It's a misdemeanor. It's not like you got nabbed for fraud or anything.

yea dont sweat it. if they feel you performed well during the internship then you should be ok

"Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat, that's a fact.

Alternatively, if you're in the states you can apply to the London, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Toronto or Singapore office. I doubt (don't take my word for it though) that it would be unveiled in the background check process.

I win here, I win there...

Thank you guys for the help. I am definitely going to tell them everything. Planning on scanning out the documents and sending them in so they get the whole picture.

However, should I wait till background check actually starts or should I just do it now? The reason why I ask is that in case (worst case scenario) they rescind my offer, I want the option to go out and find another job. Any advice on this.

Went through something similar but with a misdemeanor DUI. Long story short I disclosed on the background check under "pending charges" and it was never brought up. The charge was eventually dropped to a (non-criminal) violation. So my advice to you is to disclose on background check under "pending charges" and disclose all relevant facts if asked about it. Do not voluntarily give up information that isn't asked of you!
