Background check shoplifting Last year misdemeanor

For Frankfurt a BB arranges a background Check. I did shoplifting in a sipermarket Last year (<20$) in a different country. Extremely dumb. I got caught and received a misdemeanor involving the police. But It is not shown on the police certficate of good standing. Shall I disclose it or Will they Not find it out?

I personally wouldn't say anything.

Nobody is hiring a thief.

If they find out then they find out. But if they do / you tell them - then you've got not chance.

There is zero chance that they can find this out. For personal criminal records you need to request them yourself and hand them in to the bank. A background check team can't just randomly receive sensitive data from governmental institutions.

On top of that, at least in Germany, prior indictments will only appear if breaching a certain severity threshold. Even if you did this in Germany, it probably would not be on your register.

What background teams typically check is prior employment.

It was in the Country where I study and they asked me to fill out a form to get information about my criminal history in this country. They did Not ask yet for a authorization/ Approval to further investigate in this area. But they wrote they might Need my signature for this.

do you think if I Would disclose it now, they will rescind the offer?

You're probably ok. But this industry is built on trust and I think if this would come out it can be bad. Would you hire someone with this charge?

POV:

HYP -> BB soph summer -> BX BCP junior summer -> they find out you stole a $0.10 lira piece of gum from a corner store in Türkiye when you were aged 16, so they rescind your offer and blacklist you -> Steven Cohen gets wind of the story, and instantly hires you at SAC Capital
