Barclays Public Finance vs. Goldman Sachs Asset Management
I got a summer internship offer from the Public Finance Division in Barclays and from Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
Which one is a better bet for a full time position and building a career?
I really loved meeting the team at Barclays and I really like Public Finance, but Goldman is Goldman, and their team seemed great too.
I feel like I would enjoy Barclays more, but I also don't want to miss out on the Goldman opportunity.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
I would do GS, but that is just because Pub Fin is not appealing to me
another vote for gs
go where you will be happy
I would take the firm out of the equation here: PF vs AM. Choose your path. Yeah Goldman looks great on your resume but if you want to be in PF, Public Finance at Barclays is better than Asset Management at Goldman.
I agree with the guy above. It's not about the firm but what you'll be doing. What kind of work do you enjoy more? PF and AM are very different, and I've personally been on both ends of the spectrum.
Fortes_fortuna, You say you have been on both ends - how specialized is public finance (would I be able to get out down the road if I want to do something else?) What are the exit opportunities for both?
Very much in agreement that PF vs AM is an important question to ask. But I just want to say that Goldman Sachs AM gives you more options if/when you interview for FT.
Take firm out of question first. If can't decide on path, then choose GS.
GSAM -- Because public finance does not seem interesting to me.
