BB Analyst or PLL Player?
Dear Fellow Monkeys,
I'm looking for some guidance as I navigate a tough time in my career. For reference, I am a rising senior at a top Ivy (Harvard/Yale/Dartmouth), playing an NCAA D1 sport:
- Sport: Lacrosse
- Position: LSM (Close D in Man down)
- 23-24 Stats: 28 caused turnovers, 77 GBs, 7 assists, 15 goals
I'll admit that I didn't take my time at school very seriously. I didn't do any internships during the summers (mostly caddied, ran some middle school lacrosse camps, and played in a men's league), majored in history, and didn’t put much effort into studying (mid GPA). My issue is this: my father is an MD at a top BB in NYC, but he's in a really poor-performing group. He has told me numerous times that I "won't need to worry" because he'll help me out with securing a spot as FT Analyst, but the truth is, I don't want to work for his sub-par group that barely wins mandates. I also have a gut feeling that he’s gonna be axed soon due to his shitty performance and lack of motivation (spending more time with me, being kind to the family, etc). On the flip side, I have received a decent amount of interest from top PLL teams (think Cannons, Atlas, Whipsnakes) asking if I would consider playing in the league. In my head, this seems much more pragmatic as opposed to working for his group because it could potentially lead to sponsorships/coaching for an Ivy League/Big 10/NESCAC down the line, and the idea of working for a bum MD really doesn't bode well in my head. It's also important to mention that (Not trying to brag), but, I'm really good at lacrosse (think Steps/BBL Black/Team 91 for club in HS + was recruited in my Sophomore year). My ultimate problem is that I'm not sure if should just take this sub-par FT analyst role, or pursue a career in the PLL. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: I am still expecting to be making around 175k TC if I played for the PLL (not sure how accurate that number is, just guessing based on my performance).
Congrats on Dartmouth, consider giving KKR a look
lacrosse has no prestige unlike bb where you have access to outstanding exit opps such as pe and potus
😂😂
Knew of an analyst who also played in the PLL while working full time. Just do both.
You are in an amazing situation, so firstly be grateful and give thanks.
I’ll give you some advice, if you play a few years in the league you could always go over to your dad’s group (or if he get’s axed, whatever group/bank he joins next). That’s a given considering it’s nepotism. If not, you’ll find success wherever you do decide to go. If that’s lacrosse, it’s what you love.
$175k? Bro you're getting shafted by a pole not just a shortie. Waterdogs TC is $250k for first years.
