BB finance analyst trying to pivot — how would you do it?
Currently in a Financial Analyst programme within the CFO function of a BB in London. Previously interned in an elite client advisory unit covering UHNW families/family offices, but didn’t receive a return offer. I’ve since completed my ACCA.
The programme has been much worse than expected: deeply unstimulating work, poor morale and lots of process/presenteeism. My current team has offered me a promotion if I stay, but I’ve decided I do not want to build my career in this function.
I planned to pivot earlier but haven’t managed it. I recently turned down a year-long banking internship because the compensation and doubts about the specific team made it hard to justify.
I’m pushing hard internally and externally. I’ve had plenty of positive conversations and got very close on around three internal banking opportunities and another within asset management, but they ultimately fell over due to headcount, timing or seats being filled through internal team members moving sector/country. External conversion has also been poor so far.
I want something genuinely stimulating and commercial, so I can get on the right long-term trajectory.
For anyone who’s made or recruited for a similar move: how would you actually execute the pivot?
Candid advice appreciated.
