Best way to ask for feedback?

I joined a desk about 2 and a half months ago and have been enjoying it decently so far. I can see a future in this space.

That said, we’ve been insanely busy and I haven’t had the chance to fully digest my product. I know the sentiment commonly expressed here is to be patient and you’ll “learn on the job” but it still bugs me. I bought a 500+ page book on my product and read it every day on the subway to work.

I also feel I’ve been working extremely hard. I get in early and leave late, ask questions and general deliver things on time and of decent to good quality. When I mess up I own it and correct it. I definitely am not perfect but I’m a hard worker and I care about being a valuable member of the team. I’m also okay with working hard to be as valuable as I can to the team, as I understand as a first year analyst my incremental contributions will inherently be less valuable than those of the Associate or VP.

The problem is I generally get the feeling my desk perceives me as slightly incompetent. It could be my overthinking but it’s just how I feel. I’m not sure what I can do to change this view besides for be more socially adept (honestly my biggest challenge). But at the very least I want to show them I care about my performance.

To that end, I’d really like to schedule time with the MD on my desk for a kind of mini performance review. My desk is super chill and it seems like these kinds of reviews don’t really happen, but I think it would be helpful to level set my perception of my development vs. what the team sees.

We are in person every day except Fridays but I feel very awkward broaching this topic in front of the team. Would it be appropriate to shoot the MD an email asking for 15-20 min to touch base given it’s been 2.5-3 months? I’ve tried to be conscious of his and others’ time given how busy it’s been but it’s kind of coming to a head where I feel like I’m working my ass off and still feeling unable to shake whatever view they have of me.
