Best way to leverage my connections to get a job

I have a parent who is a outside consultant for a large investment bank in London, and he is regularly in contact with people who are quite high up the food chain there.

I'm currently a student at a very good UK university for finance, and have a pretty good CV in general. I will be applying for spring weeks and then summer internships soon.

Please could you tell me what the best way is to leverage my connections and secure a good spring/summer internship. My thinking is maybe he should try and get me a spring week there, as it is a lower commitment from the company in that it is unpaid and shorter in duration. This would then help me get summer internships in the future. On the other hand, the summer internship would be a lot more important - if my parent is going to use their leverage once, it may be better to save it for the more important one?

Please advise me on what I should do. Thank you.
