Big 4 TAS intern - What options do I have?

Hi guys, first time posting here. I'm currently a TAS summer intern, and I'll be going through FT recruiting this fall. Being a fairly small team (around 5 people), we mainly perform target screening and FDD for M&A deals. Question: What jobs can I leverage this experience to apply for? Since I am from a non-target with an average GPA, I'm afraid that breaking into IB would be tough. Any advice?

Thank you for the response. I actually have just this summer to figure out what I want to do (I'm a rising senior - international student with an F-1 Visa). I think I phrased the original post a bit vaguely; put another way, what FT jobs do you think my TAS internship experience would be most directly relevant to? Honestly I just want to maximize my chances for FT recruiting.

Well, i'm assuming you will need a firm to sponsor you if you were to start working full time. So that will basically cut out a decent amount of boutique and middle market firms. In terms of directly relevant experience, the Big 4 on your resume will give you a story for accounting positions, and the M&A/FDD experience will give you a story for some front office gigs (IB,etc) and corporate finance positions.

The only obstacles you face will be Visa sponsorship, people that have more directly relevant work experience, and people that network better.

To maximize your chances:

  1. Figure out what job you want to network for
  2. Figure out why you are interested in it and how your current internship guided that interest
  3. Start reaching out to people to find out about their careers, firms, and tell them about #2 above.
  4. Apply for jobs and reach out to contacts at the firms that you have previously networked for.
