Can an analyst friend help me get an internship?
Hi,
I am a student in a non-target school in NY.
I have a friend who is a research analyst at a major IB company (the likes of JPM).
I was wondering to what extent he can help me get an internship in the summer, if at all, assuming he wants to actively help me out.
Is having a friend in the analyst position even advantegeous at all for me getting an internship and eventually a job anywhere?
It depends a lot. I mean it definitly won’t hurt you and can push you for say a 1st round however no, an analyst is not going to “Get you an internship” at the firm like your title asks
Usually you’re guaranteed a first round if he flags your resume internally. Beyond the first round it’s up to you to perform well. I don’t know if every BB has this though so you’ll need to ask your friend about his bank.
That being said if he’s at JPM you’re basically screwed because they’ve made it so juniors can’t do anything to help in the process.
