Can I Trust a Verbal Offer?

I just received a written offer from UBS and they've given me 3 days to provide a response. I got a verbal offer call from MS on the same day but the person on the phone told me it would take about 1-2 weeks to generate an official offer. MS is my first choice but I also don't want to decline the UBS offer before I get the official one from MS. Is asking MS to expedite the process of generating the official offer the right thing to do?

HR from MS replied me that “We won’t be able to get you the offer letter by Friday.  But I can assure you we will submit the details today—in anticipation we can get the offer letter out to you by next week.” Does this count as written confirmation?

Can you try and get a deadline extension from UBS? Might be worth a shot if MS HR can’t go faster.

Update: Thank you all for the suggestions! UBS gave me a one-week extension until this Friday. MS said the official offer should be out by this week, but I still haven't received it. Should I ask MS again to let them know about the new deadline and expedite the process again? I don't want to be seen as being too pushy.
