Career Advice
As the title says I'm in need of career/life advice. A little about me: I have no experience whatsoever in finance/business as I'm about to graduate in may of 2022 with an engineering degree. I got a little screwed over by the military (not naming the branch) in that they decided financial management was a better route despite the work I put into my engineering degree.
I'll be a financial management officer for the next 4 ish years after I graduate in the spring doing accountant/budgeting tasks in addition to managing teams of 10-50. What I do when I separate from the service to help me land an IB job? I'm pretty lost but I have a few ideas that I'd like some input on.
- Get an MBA from a target school:
- not sure where this would land me in IB considering my work experience may or may not be relevant whatsoever
- What sort of Job level offering could I be looking at if I receive one?
- Go straight into some sort of finance Job to build up my application for IB
In addition to what I do post-service, would it be worth pursuing some sort of finance job/summer position (I'll have roughly 6 months of down time before I begin service). I never thought I'd find myself posting to a finance board, let alone asking for IB advice, but I suppose it's worth a shot--any help and input would be appreciated.

Just plan to go to get a top MBA directly after the military. I think if you use your 9/11 GI Bill, it will cover tuition and BAH.
But, you didn’t exactly describe what kind of engineer you are and if you’re interested in a Masters of Financial Engineering, you could go that route as well.
Also, after a target MBA, IB isn’t always at the top of people’s lists. There are other positions like in PE that might be lighter on the hours. Or MBB consulting.
I'll graduate with an aerospace engineering degree. A Masters of Financial Engineering doesn't really appeal to me because I would be earning around the same if I utilized my current degree and stuck with it.
