Career Resources
I am sorry.
But I don't feel bad for you. You're in Boston, a large city. You can network your ass off and land something decent. State street is a decent place to work for.
State Street's name is good but pay is shit and SSGA is the only division worth working for
Welcome to the Club...
I'm vain and would never cut my hair to join the military,...I'm kidding I know what you meant
Seriously though with crap options like that I'd rather go teach English in China
Do you go to like suffolk or something man?
Get grades up and transfer.
That can't be their big career fair, there are barely any employers. My school has mini career fairs/networking events every now and then with a small # of firms, but 2 large ones every year. Make sure you know your career center's career fair schedule.
Correct, it is the summer career fair but it is still shit. Kids at my school actually aspire to do audit (which is disgusting), I'd say the majority would not know what IB, AM, ER, VC, PE even stand for.
This is on par with my schools career fairs. Welcome to the club.
Brutal. I had shit for OCR, so I sent out 150 apps, if not more. Landed multiple offers and two dozen interviews. You have to work your ass off, but you can do it man.
Please elaborate on the quality of the multiple offers you received, all within finance?
Yes. Two boutique M&A (small shops, think 5-15 man shops), a corp dev position at one of the largest auto parts mftg (foreign, but US-based), one FLDP and a MM IB position, which I took.
Didn't apply to anything outside of typical finance, except a few financial consulting positions (Alvarez Marasal, FTI Consulting).
Went with the MM IB position b/c of comp, opportunity to move up rather quickly (large need for more at the VP level), and exposure to the MD so I could learn a lot. The Corp Dev position paid slightly higher salary, but it was lower than average from my understanding. FLDP paid well, but it was rotational to non-large metro areas, which doesn't work well when you have a serious gf. Plus, not really what I wanted to do.
Had several other FLDP and senior financial analyst interviews and superdays that I didn't get an offer from (General Mills, Diageo, AT&T, American Airlines, etc.).
Note, this was out of MBA, which is just as hard, if not harder IMO. I worked my ass off b/c I knew how important getting off to a good start after (grad) school was.
Mary Kay !
Shoot, I wanted to post what my options were for OCR so you could get a laugh out of them, but WSO won't let me post a link to the picture.
Basically the only companys were quicksilver, looking for a sales rep in their retail store and a phone person for carnival cruse lines.
Quite sad really. Makes yours look like a gold mine.
Its okay though I'll finish up my AA with a 4.0 at this community college and then Transfer to UF and hopefully my options will grow. I don't mind working hard.
I was actually told by a kind professor to go to another schools OCR for a freshman year summer internship
his words were, "If they don't check your ID, whats from stopping you?" Maybe I'll drive down to UM and see what the options are over there lol.
