Career Guidance, Need some Insight
I'm a rising Junior at a target school, and up to this point, I have had no work experience outside of a family owned business. I'm an Economics major, about a 3.7 GPA, and in the Honors Program. My first two summers, I screwed around, had fun, but recently, I've gotten serious about career implications. I know it is mid-summer, but I want to know my options at this point.
Next summer, I want to work as summer analyst for a consulting firm. As of right now, what can I do to bolster the résumé? Should I get a part-time job, cold-call banks for a Internship, or something else? I'm fairly new to whole financial services sector, so I would appreciate any help at this point.
tl;dr
Rising junior, good GPA, wants to do a consulting internship next summer, what to do now (early summer) to bolster the résumé.
The things I do: My personal trading account, consulting projects for small firms, case competition.
Things off the top of my head: Cold-call for a stint this summer, and continue with them part-time. Otherwise, find something part-time throughout your studies.
Cold-calling banks for what type of position? PWM?
Cold-call investment firms.
Investment firms such as...?
Appreciate the advice so far James.
Is there a research project you can do on campus? Consulting firms like when you take a project/process, compile research, and come up with a better solution to the existing model.
