Changing internship position before interview

Hey guys,
I have an interview at First Republic Bank on Monday for a
Workforce Planning/Strategy and Risk Management internship. I imagine this is something related to human resources such as the analysis of the work flow and human capital in the bank. I'm more interested in the finance and numbers side, specifically commercial lending which is another internship being offered within the same post that I found on my school's job board. Is it too late to let the interviewer know that I would like to interview for the Commercial Lending internship instead? Would this hurt my prospects for either positions at the bank? If it does then I'll be a trooper and just interview for the initial position because this is my last shot at an internship in finance-related entity for the summer. My biggest concern is that if I try to change the position I'm applying for I'll get labeled as "someone who doesn't know what they want" and get kicked to the curb. Any help is appreciated!

i would not do that because by applying for one and not for the other you made the decision. They picked to interview you for the HR role not finance role so I an bot sure how they would react to that kind of change.

So the title of the job ad was "Lending Services Internship" and in the description it says we have opening spots in the follow areas: commercial banking and workforce planning/strategy/risk management. They requested a resume and cover letter and in my cover letter and the body of my email I indicated I was interested in the latter. Sounds like I'm doomed as far as changing my preference?

boy, you guys can be mean! At least offer some advice and not just state the obvious.

No you're not doomed, I'd interview for the HR position leave one hell of an impression then when one month into the internship tell ur manager that u'd like to see other aspects of the bank (after all that's what an internship is about) if they tell you you can't switch departments tell them you're willing to extend your internship and intern into your fall term (which is something VERY doable). Right now just worry about getting in not what department you will get! Good luck
