Citi BBPM

Has anyone ever heard of this group, BBPM, at Citi? It's the Banking Book portfolio management Group. I spotted a great job there and want to submit, but want to make sure that it will put on the right track for my career. I'm curious if strictly a Risk job or a Portfolio Management job with some risk sprinkled in. Nonetheless, I want to work in S&T and I think this might be a great training ground for my trading skills.

FO, MO, BO? Exit Oppts?

Here's a quick snippet of the job:

Banking Book Portfolio Management ("BBPM") is a specialized risk portfolio group that seeks to apply portfolio management techniques on a micro and macro basis for the $800 billion Banking Book portfolio, which represents all of the credit risk for Citi globally. BBPM, which reports into the ICG Chief Credit Officer, is concentrating on a number of key initiatives to enhance Citi's risk management discipline including portfolio management theory, limit frameworks, risk mitigation (hedging strategies), portfolio optimization and strategic initiatives. The BBPM team addresses a variety of strategic risk issues across the global ICG credit portfolio and the unique opportunity to gain a strong understanding of a diverse set of risk management techniques leveraging corporate finance analysis across all levels of the capital structure. The group offers a lean structure with the potential for significant senior management exposure and works closely with many partners throughout the organization globally including Risk, Business Coverage, Capital Markets, and Research. This position also provides the candidate with significant exposure to debt and equity capital market activities and exposure to a broad range of industries.

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Holistically review the Banking Book portfolio and apply portfolio management theory and techniques • Participate in the portfolio limit setting process and identification and management of concentrated and correlated positions • Support partnering groups across all aspects of risk mitigation initiatives through their lifecycle including: evaluating mitigation opportunities, providing analysis stemming from market research including economic and industry trends as well as structuring, presenting, and executing risk mitigation strategies • Contribute to the evaluation and execution of both traditional and proxy hedging strategies, including the use of debt and equity-based products and derivatives • Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives and ad-hoc projects directed to Senior Management and Regulators • Financial and market analysis, industry and geography research, trends and current issues within the debt and equity capital markets

A friend I know worked here as an analyst. It's a MO risk management role. The portfolio is solely credit, so you won't get market related exposure. You may be able to leverage the skill set to credit trading, but it's fairly specialized.

The hours are decent (~60/week) and pay is close to IBD: same base, mid bucket bonuses of 40/50/60 by analyst year.

The skills aren't terribly transferable, but they get pretty solid talent (NYU, BC, Columbia for analysts) and I think a fair amount of exposure to seniors. May be a good role to get in biz school while working on the CFA if portfolio mgmt is long term plan.
