Class of 2023 Kids

Just wanna rant how tough it is to land a decent FT role this year for all the class of 2023s.

The chance of landing a competitive role in a BB (not just the tier 1s) is super thin.

With the extremely low return rates, you are basically competing with a bunch of people with SA experiences at top BB names on their CV...

Not to mention, companies are processing the applications real slow...

After spending months interviewing with the firms, spending countless nights trying to figure out all the firms info, drafting answers for every possible questions that I can think of, rejections are what awaited ahead.

Tbh, getting the no headcount rejection in summer is already heart breaking enough. But this job hunting game simply never stops and the worse is yet to come.

Anyway, sorry for all the rants but am really frustrated. Any advice to navigate through this tough situation?

To those who are still finding a FT role out there, we are all in this together!!

beggars can’t be choosers man, in times like these you can’t afford to limit yourself to BBs and EBs because it’s a complete crapshoot. I was lucky enough to land a BB offer a few weeks ago and that’s when it finally clicked for me that that’s exactly what it was: luck. Yeah I grinded my ass off all recruiting season. But I’m not any better than my friends from my SA class who also had to re recruit and ended up at “lower tier” shops. I got rejected from “shit” banks but somehow happened to say something that I guess made the MD that interviewed me think I was smart at the BB. Point is don’t think of yourself as too good for any banks. IB is IB and you can always lateral when the market gets better. Before I got my offer I was applying to 10 man boutiques and would have been ecstatic to have an offer from them over nothing. Don’t beat yourself up over prestige just get back in the game and u can figure it out from there

Just because this individual didn't get a return during a shit market doesn't mean they didn't take their internship seriously. Nobody "deserves" anything. Also, how do you know that your friends deserve their full-time offers? Stop determining people's worth through a recruiting process that is highly arbitrary and variable.

Good luck with the recruiting process out there, OP. Just stay resilient, and things will work out!
