Barclays Operations Analyst vs. BNY Office of the COO: Which summer internship offers better long-term career growth?

Hi! I am a junior studying Economics, and I have recently received two internship offers: BNY Office of the COO Intern and Barclays Operations Summer Analyst.

BNY is based in Pittsburgh, PA, and Barclays is based in Whippany, NJ. BNY is offering me a $70k annualized salary and a $3k sign-on bonus; Barclays is offering $75k and a $2.5k sign-on bonus. Which role’s return offer and progression will give me the best opportunity and career growth? Some factors I am currently considering include the COL difference between the Pittsburgh area and New Jersey, layoffs/restructuring, job security as AI advances, and long-term earning and career-growth potential.

I am well aware that Barclays Ops is not the same as a front-office Barclays role, but is the Barclays name/brand still worth choosing over BNY? For more context, my goal is NOT to break into a front-office role; I would prefer to stay within back/middle office functions and progress there.

Additionally, this would be my first major company on my resume, which is why this decision is so important to me. I'd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who's interned or worked at either firm, or who has experience with similar roles. Thank you in advance for your advice; I really appreciate it!

Which internship is the best choice?
