Cold email response

How would you guys respond to this (I really appreciated the guy emailing me back so quickly but I'm struggling with how to respond):

"Thanks for reaching out XXX. We are not currently looking for fall interns but that can always change. If it does I will reach out to you. Best regards, XXX"

I tried emailing directly for possible fall internships at MMs. I've also done the whole 'informational interview cold email'. Just wanted to try something different and more to the point.

If you're looking for fall internships, the direct approach is probably best. Just respond by thanking him, and letting him know that you're willing to work unpaid, make sure he has your resume.

Also, it would be best to target boutique banks, and not MM. I'm not sure if you said "MM" but meant boutique, but MM banks usually have pretty structured internship programs.

Thanks for the response! And yes, I apologize. I meant a boutique bank. Is offering to intern for free a good strategy? I was tempted to write that down in the email but I felt it would come across as desperate. It didn't matter how I phrased it, it looked too desperate lol

I'd follow up one more time in like 3 weeks to a month. I don't think these guys are gonna remember you when their staffing needs actually change down the road, so the onus is on you to stay fresh in their minds. Might just be personal experience though as I reached out to a bunch of people and had calls at firms who said they weren't hiring but would keep me in the loop, and then 2 months later I would see some classmate got hired by them. This happened for like 3 places off the top of my head.
