Cold walking in to firms to drop off CV and intro myself.. Good idea or not?
I have a pretty strong set of summer and off-cycle internship experiences across investment teams at top banks/investment managers. However I graduated this year and have no permanent roles lined up.
So far I've been doing a lot of networking/coffee chats (in person) but a contact recently told me that the best way is just to print out a bunch of CV's and cover letters and walk into firms in the city asking to speak to the hiring managers to drop them off/intro myself.
This contact said that was his way in (probably almost 10yrs ago) and now works for a family office of a family that everyone on this site would know.
I did it today for a few very small firms just to report back to the contact that I'd followed his advice but the people did seem to genuinely appreciate it. Not sure if it's a good idea going forward at places I'd actually be very keen to work.
