Commercial Banking lateral to Investment Banking Question
How realistic would it be to lateral from a BB commercial banking group (JPM/Citi/etc.) to investment banking at the same bank after a year or 2? If not at the same bank, what about MM banks? What steps would be necessary to make this move? Thanks!
Pretty unlikely for internal, a MM bank would be hard as commercial banking isn’t like IB at all.
I could see perhaps a MM bank (not top) taking a chance but you’ll probably have to step back a year
dude people have made this transition before so stfu and stop discouraging people lol
Maybe at a BB its different but at my EB for all the lateral hiring that we’ve done (albeit not a whole lot) we always picked people with IB/PE experience. Why pick a commercial banker when you have a plethora of other applicants with already IB skillset?
Also, corporate banking may be possible but commercial banking definitely harder. It isn’t impossible I’m sure and with the right connections I’m sure people have made the moves but OP asked “how likely” it was and the truth is not likely.
Looking at your posts it seems that you’re a prospect/intern thats going to commercial/corporate don’t be so insecure about it and stfu
