Confused about response to networking email

Graduated from college a while ago and trying to network for a job transition and possible b-school applications for next year. International and new to networking in US.

I am confused about replying to an initial response.

If someone responds with open-ended "I would be happy to talk with you next week", I am thinking of writing back " Thanks for your offer to talk. I am available at so and so day between X-Y pm. Would that work?"

But, may be it's gratuitous and also does not provide the contact flexibility to choose a time. If contact is allowed to pick time openly then he may pick a time that simply won't work with me.

I guess I am confused about the wording etc without sounding unavailable. It's either too long, too short....any suggestions?
