Connections in a different divison

I was wondering if you guys had any insight on whether having family connections in another division of a bank can be beneficial for landing summer internships. For example if I wanted to get an investment banking internship and knew an MD in S&T could they be of any help to advance my application or anything of that nature. This would be at a bulge bracket firm by the way. Thanks!

People know people. Connections are always a good thing to have whether they are in the division you hope to apply for or not. Now, what strikes me most is that you have jumped on the forums to pose this question rather than approaching your relative directly. My advice would be to contact your family relative and demonstrate your interest to work in a particular division at his bank. Perhaps he will put you in touch with his colleagues or may be friends at other banks? As mentioned, people know people especially considering the length of his tenure. Perhaps he will send a quick email to HR (I know family members who have worked at the same bank but unaware as to whether potential conflict of interests can raise red flags)?

Bitch please, I love bananas! If you found my advice useful, hit me up with one.

Old family friend, not a relative, but have already reached out to him directly and said he could try to talk to HR but didn't know how much help it would be as he'd never done anything cross divisions. Wanted to see if anyone had ever been in a similar situation and what their outcome was.
