Is it a boutique? I assume it is because if its not that's extremely weird.
Since its a boutique (guessing) then I would say that you should treat it as an interview. Come prepared for an interview wrapped in an 'airport test' to see if you chive with the culture. Wear your suit, bring a bag, have a leather portfolio with a resume tucked away but don't jump straight into a 'interview' mode unless it starts to glide that way.
Maybe someone else who has had this happen can chime in.

I wear a suit all day anyways. So it wouldn't be crazy for me. It'd be throwing on a tie.

Expecting a boutique to pay a sophomore this much is ludicrous. I would expect this internship to be unpaid, and I would take it if you have no better offers on the table.

You'd wear a suit to go out for coffee?

i once had an interview, job offer and salary negotiation for a trading role at a Starbucks at 7am.
wear what you'd wear to work if you were working at that firm, and you were about to walk into the office.
Noted, and yes its for a boutique banking firm.
Assuming compensation comes up, what would be a fair number for a sophomore in banking role in NYC?
Definitely treat this like it could be an interview (suit, etc.).
As a sophomore, you won't be in much position to negotiate, but 70-80k prorated (1400-1600/week) is probably pretty standard.

70k prorated is street for sophomores. Bumps up to 85k as a junior
