Cover letters rarely get read. Yet they are often requested. Is there's a template so as to be able to more quickly churn them out, and give them the best chance of being effective?
Usually I go with: "We share connections with X prerson, or ..." and then "Reasons to hire me are 1,2,3"
What do you guys use?
