CPA with 7 years BO Accounting looking to get out

So I'm a CPA that recently moved to NYC for 90k base and ~10k bonus. My issue is I want to make more money. I like accounting but I also like financial research and the market in general. Can someone please inform me on how to proceed? deep down I really want 125k base plus 25k bonus when I made the move to NYC but the recruiter told me that was not possible with only 7 years of experience.

1. I'm I underpaid? should I jump firms in NYC and look for more money after I do my year?

2. Is there any part of financial services that I can jump to with my CPA and experience for more money?

Are you at a big 4? 7 years experience you must be at least manager now, and yes those figures are on the low side for 7 year CPA experience. If you want to make a move, easiest route is to push for a transfer to your firms Deal Advisory practice. That will get you deal experience (and better pay), which you may like better anyways and stick around the firm, or it will be much easier for you to exit the firm for IB or PE. That's what most auditors do as an exit option to IB. And the firms are fine with it also, they need the turnover, they'll work you hard for a year or 2 on DD and then wish you well on your exit to IB or PE.
