No, you will not get invited by co-workers to get drinks at the bars. Get a fake and you can maybe head out with the other interns.
Congrats on the offer, and I wouldn’t stress not being able to go out just cuz you have more than enough time to do that in your career.
Thanks for the advice, my concern with getting a fake is that I’ve heard of offers being rescinded due to it.
Dont get a fake. If u go out to happy hours, try getting a drink. If u get ID’d, then whatever enjoy ur night sober, if u don’t then get drunk.
Currently in this situation - not many events with co-workers and it’s mostly just going out with others interns w a fake
In terms of any co-worker related events (had one and a will have one more) and I didn’t use my fake I just went with the team - oftentimes they won’t card cause it’s a work event - and if they do I would normally just say I’m not 21 - not that deep and not worth the risk imo
You can get a fake to use on weekends if you want but definitely do not try and order with co-workers or at a happy hour if you're not 21 - fake or no fake. It's 1000% acceptable to get a soda, it's not like people are getting hammered at the intern welcome HHs anyway. I don't care if you go to bars on your own time but I would look seriously sideways at any intern who tried to get a drink at a company event if underage.
Also a ton of interns are 20 during their internship. Most HHs are not at clubs, usually restaurants/casual bars that don't require you to be 21 until after 10pm or so - you won't have a problem getting in. My bank doesn't even allow alcohol at intern-related HHs since so many are underage (definitely overkill but.. that's what they do and you won't be alone being too young). And finally, this topic comes up a lot but won't be a huge problem, we're talking about probably 2 work-sponsored HHs during your entire internship
