Deutsche Bank Interview Question: Why DB?

I have a first round interview with Deutsche Bank corporate finance coming up. Anybody know what to expect? I've never had a finance interview before. More importantly, can anyone tell me "Why Deutsche Bank?"

Why Do You Want to Work at DB?

In any interview or informational phone call - you will likely be asked an equivalent of this question - so it is critical that you have a thought out and practiced answer. To help your answer stand out, you should do extensive research on the firm's website to determine what they consider to be their core values and competitive advantages. In addition to this background research - you should try and speak with members of the firm in the division you're interested in so that you can get a better understanding of the culture of the firm. All of these things should be considered into your answer.

Details about Deutsche Bank Shared by Users

MMmonkey - Hedge Fund AnalystThey have quite the international footprint, you will get to work on/see deals across continents.

They have the best work/life balance amongst most large banks (I wouldn't phrase it that way, I'd say "higher employee satisfaction" or "employees feel less like a spammable resource")

Kool with a K - Investment Banking AnalystWhat truly differentiates them from the other big banks is they quite frankly will work on any deal. No matter how large or small. A way to put a good spin on this would be to say that you will get exposure to leading large cap companies and start-up companies with the next disruptive technology. This will give you a broader scope and understanding of the technology landscape. I’m sure you can make it sound better.

Example Why Deutsche Bank? Answer

I first became interested in DB when attending an informational session at XYZ school. There I spoke with several alumni from the corporate finance group. After connecting with members of the firm at that event, I was connected to speak to more alumni from the firm who spoke extensively about the global nature of the firm as well as the diverse nature of deal exposure due to the firm’s willingness to take on any sized deals. This is what has driven my interest in the firm and led me to want to work at DB this summer.

Which group. I used to work in DB tech. If your interview is with DB tech this could help.

Also DB is not a US bank as such not handcuffed by TARP and OBAMA. I know they hired the entire FIG group from ML which was ML IBDs highest revenue generating group.

Hope that helps!

joevaulted: Mention the fact that its impressive that DB is where its at today after only 10 years in the IB industry (1999 bankers trust acquisition) and they are definitely positioned well for the future after raiding banks for senior MDs. Did you have your interview yet? If not, good luck.

Funniest

Hum "Deutscheland uber alles" and then start telling them how you've always wanted to drive a Panzerkampfwagen Tiger into Russia.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Yeah I have a pretty good answer to why I want the job specifically, I was just looking for anything that makes DB stand out from other BB's, other than this is the only one interviewing me

B/C you have a passion to perform? :D

couchysorry I shouldn't troll... disregard above...

Look up the company and group, then work one of their selling points into your story and how it resonated with you blah blah blah. BD is a highly respected international bank and has a 'no jerks allowed' mindset, so maybe work those points in as well. More importantly than answering the question literally is to convey the fact that you're impressed with their manner of doing business and that it's the best fit for you based on your interactions with the people you've met there.

It goes without saying, but "this is the only place that wants to interview me" will not do.

Get busy living

they did not need any financial support from the government during the crisis!

what division are you applying to?
