Did this get me dinged?
Timeline of events:
Phone screen on a Monday, I was told by the talent acquisition coordinator I would be meeting with the group.
Final round interview 3 days later, then, I was told they would have answer to me by Tuesday July 3. Instead, on that day the talent acquisition coordinator replied to my thank you email and said he'd follow up next Monday.
1 week post final round, on Thursday, I reached out to the head HR guy who expressed that was happy that I am so excited for the opportunity and hopes that the talent acquisition guy updates me soon with any next steps. I presume Monday - like the talent guy said earlier this week.
General tone is relatively friendly. Replies are anywhere from a couple hours to 48 hours max.
It should also be noted that I told the firm I had other firms to answer to by the ninth (Monday). They seemed somewhat agreeable, hence the original idea of deciding a few days after the interview. Perhaps the fourth got in the way?
Have I been dinged?
Dinged for reaching back out, telling them you have other offers you need to respond to or in the general sense since you haven’t heard back?
General sense.
Reaching out won’t get you dinged. I mean imo you’d have to do some pretty fucked up shit to get from offer to dinged via your follow up.
Haha alright fair enough, just wanted to be clear on your question since the wording was a little vague.
My experience as both the candidate being hired as well as the hiring manager is that once you have narrowed it down to your preferred candidates (the best) companies will act fast to lock you down and the final steps (signing the offer, figuring out the details of you starting, etc) should fly by.
For example, for my current position after my final interview I received my offer, signed and got my background check done all within 48 hours.
I did just hire an analyst however and we took a week to think it over plus some companies are pretty sloppy with how they run their recruitment process so perhaps you want to follow up again.
Impact of the holiday is a good point, it depends on the office but we saw all outside firms and consultants pretty much go radio silent this past week so that is a reason to be optimistic.
For what it is worth we are a smaller firm, typically our Head of HR handles the logistics and coordination but it is senior leadership and the hiring manager that have the actual sway and impact on who gets hired versus who does not.
Based on the context and feedback you just gave me, if he was particularly enthusiastic about your continued interest I would be hopeful. By the time it comes for final coordination and signing offers the HR department has typically been notified about who is "in the running" versus who is not so perhaps they are still thinking it over.
I will comment though that HR staff in general are typically of a friendly/marketing nature in their communications and generally risk averse so perhaps they are trying to keep it open ended while the decision is still being made.
Yeah that’s true. He said basically “talent acquisitions coordinator will follow up with any next steps, I’m happy you are excited, hopefully you get an update soon” word choice of “any” makes me wonder if there are any?
The Talent coordinator thanked me for my continued interest and said he looked forward to following up with me on Monday. using exclamation mark at the end. He also wished me a good holiday.
So I know if the recruiter is telling the truth, then I’ll hear Monday.
But what is weird to me since I met both talent and HR Is that it just seems like they would at least give him a general idea (no, maybe, yes). At some point I imagine he’d have to come in and process somethings like the offer?

See comment above, also it should be noted one of VP answered my thank you. Wasn’t an exciting email. Just said have a good weekend.
All correspondance after the interview was quick. They answer the follow ups within a couple hours. With the exception of one reply was Sunday just over 24 hours (weekend)
FWIW. Based on this would they have just told me at this point if I was out?
Ah I see, I can tell that you care and want this position (which is good) but it seems to me like you are reading a little too much into it as although those are friendly, they are still neutral responses. I would not take those in either direction and it sounds as though they are still working their way through the process, particularly if they are quick to respond to your thank you notes and correspondence.
As I discussed before, HR departments typically have little to no say (unless it is cultural fit or they have a talent department they rely on) in the final hiring decision so a good HR team would not tip you off even if they had insider knowledge.
Either way, I would imagine they are going to let all candidates know at once whether they are selected or not so that correspondence is coming. Some companies are disorganized and take forever to move forward so I would just keep doing what you are doing and follow up if you haven't heard by mid-week.
