Does Goldman Sachs carry out background checks PRIOR to making an offer?

I was wondering if this was the case because they alluded to it recently. I cant remember signing anything permitting them to do so, but it may have been part of the disclaimer on the online application and ticking the box for submission gave them permission. Anyone know if this is the case?

I am absolutely sure. If you planned applying again for the SW (you are not in the first year), don't do it. :D They will also give a good check on you accomplishments, so don't lie.

Blacklist once is blacklist forever. I also know that people who fail can apply again next year(s) but will not get invitation to interviews etc. just the generic message of rejection.

GS is strict about this, other banks not so much.

The background check will happen after you receive the offer. Keep in mind that thorough background checks can actually take a significant amount of time. For some jobs (especially mid career jobs), you will get an offer, hand in your 2 weeks notice to your previous employer, start working at the new firm, and the background check will still be ongoing several weeks or months since you have already started working at your new employer.

This is when you hear the horror stories of somebody working at a job for a few weeks or even a couple months and then they suddenly disappear. You wonder what happened to them and it turns out something came up in their background check that they did not disclose or misrepresented.

I wonder how much can actually be verified by these background checks after all.. I know some people who had their dates of employment and designations right but exaggerated their accomplishments and day to day responsibilities beyond what I would consider acceptable. I am NOT saying that this is good but I wonder where the line-that-must-not-be crossed exists.

what sort of information do they ask in the background check? I have done my final-round interviews with GS and have been asked to fill in a form containing my personal details and mostly my historical salary and salary expectations. But no offer has been made yet. Wondering if any of you has encountered similar situation before and if there's any hint from this form.

Same situation here, I am still waiting for the result, and no respone, no offer. what happened to you next, is this background check?Have you got an offer?and how long did it take ?Thanks!
