Does HR have any say?

Does HR have any say in anything in the recruiting process? More specifically, for on campus interviews or resume screens, will they have any say in who is going to get an interview / who doesn't? Basically, should I even waste my time networking with HR (other than to obtain contacts working within IB)?

In my experience with on campus recruiting, the HR people are THE people you want to network the hardest with. Developing a relationship w/ an on campus recruiter from your desiered employer is the best way to get your foot in the door (when it come to on-campus recruiting)

Don't waste too much time with HR...go straight to the IB professionals if that's what you want. HR simply pushes the paper around.

You can ignore HR to your own detriment. what if you piss them off so much that they refuse to push your paper around.

I'm not telling him to piss off HR. I'm just saying that if he wants to network his way into banking, then he should be networking with bankers. Knowing the HR people is nice, but knowing the bankers is better.

brutalglideNot arguing that networking with bankers is better. But I'm just wondering if I should hit up HR also, though tbh it's hard to network with them cause they are too uhh HR-like (ie. they'll just tell me to apply online)
Def. give HR a shot too. I've gotten 2 interviews through HR - SocGen, JPMAM. I was most def. NOT qualified for the position at SG, but HR did something and I got the call to come in.
