Doing other roles on top of your daily role

Alright guys, cut it short,

My friend is currently in PWM but he wants to do is S & T. So he is proposing if he could spend some time in the morning (so btwn 7-9?) with the sales desk before he goes to his normal daily routine task (9onwards)

initially i supported the idea but come to think of it, not too sure if it will offend his own boss or any others?

S & T boss is ok with his idea.

I too, would worry about offending the boss. Imagine telling a guy (in THIS job market) that you don't want to be part of his crew and plan on jumping ship ASAP.

It's one thing to have an offer from S&T and jump but the boss would have to be a really nice guy not to get a little offended or annoyed.

Also, I don't think S&T will like the idea of people think their poaching other department's talent.

But that's just my opinion, I think more senior guys need to weigh.

Best Response

1) You're not going to be in S&T long enough (2 hours) to obtain any measurable amount of experience

2) PWM boss is going to hate you.

"He Mike, thanks for the job/internship, I think everything you have done in your life sucks balls so I was wondering if you could let me get my feet wet in S&T while you still pay me and as soon as something opens in the cool kids area I am gone"

3) You are going to be told no or begrudgingly told yes. Either way you just soured the waters.

PWM and Sales in S&T are not exactly similar, but you can build the necessary skill sets in PWM. You are still dealing with clients, working on your soft skills, getting a solid feel for the market, etc. If you really want to do S&T start networking and try and go to another firm.
