Employment Gap and Background Checks

Hi All,

Received an offer for a role in financial services at large bank and have a question about background checks.

On my CV, I’ve listed a previous employer as a continuous period (Jan 2018–Dec 2022). In reality, I left briefly in year 4 for another role (around 2 months), realised it wasn’t the right fit, and then returned to my previous employer, who rehired me. There was also an ~8 week gap before restarting due to the rehiring process.

I haven’t mentioned this short move or the gap on my CV or in interviews.

I intend to include the details of the gap when the  company conducting the background checks reaches out for my employment history. How likely is the discrepancy vs my CV to be flagged and likelihood HR will care? My opinion was it looked cleaner to simplify it as I technically did join in January 2018 and leave in December 2022 however realise now that may not have been the best approach.

Thank you!
